What we audit

Six disciplines.
One Web Health Score.

Every audit assesses the same six disciplines, scored against the contemporary 2026 professional standard. Each discipline has a dedicated agent reading the site, citing real evidence, and naming the action that moves the score most.

The six disciplines

Discipline 01

Findability

Can search engines and AI assistants actually find, read, and understand your site? Findability is the foundation everything else stands on.

What we check

  • Same-host links matching about, services, pricing, contact, team, work
  • JSON-LD structured data (Organization, LocalBusiness, FAQPage, Person)
  • Title, meta description, canonical, H1 hierarchy
  • robots.txt, sitemap.xml, /llms.txt, /.well-known/llms.txt

Why it matters

If a site is invisible to Google and Perplexity, the rest of the audit is moot, no visitor ever arrives to be converted.

Discipline 02

Performance

How quickly does the site become useful on a mid-range mobile? Performance is the gap between curiosity and the back button.

What we check

  • Document size (bytes) and number of inline + external scripts
  • Image count, alt-text coverage, lazy-loading hints
  • Render-blocking CSS in <head>
  • Viewport meta, theme-color, mobile-specific markup

Why it matters

Every additional second of load time measurably reduces enquiries. Google also penalises slow pages in search results.

Discipline 03

Credibility

Does a sceptical first-time visitor trust this business enough to share data, money, or an enquiry? Credibility is the largest single drop-off point on most SME sites.

What we check

  • Above-the-fold trust strip, logos, badges, accreditations
  • Cookie consent platform fingerprints (15+ known CMPs)
  • Security headers: HSTS, CSP, X-Frame-Options, Referrer-Policy
  • Privacy policy and terms reachable in fewer than two clicks

Why it matters

Visitors decide whether you are trustworthy in seconds. Missing trust signals, named directors, or a cookie policy compound into an enforcement, reputational, or conversion risk.

Discipline 04

Clarity & UX

Can a real visitor, including one using a screen reader, a phone in sunlight, or a touch device, understand and use the site? Clarity is accessibility, usability, and design discipline under one roof.

What we check

  • H1 presence and uniqueness per page
  • Image alt-text coverage and lang attribute
  • Distinct font families on the page (>3 = visual noise)
  • Distinct font weights (<2 = no hierarchy; >7 = no system)

Why it matters

Equality Act 2010 makes WCAG-equivalent accessibility a legal requirement for UK businesses. Visual design discipline determines whether the audience perceives the brand as current and credible, a dated site loses every comparison click.

Discipline 05

Conversion

When a visitor lands, can they actually convert? Conversion measures the path from interest to enquiry, including every friction point along the way.

What we check

  • Number of CTAs and their specificity
  • Form field count and required-field ratio
  • Pricing visibility (transparent, hidden, "contact us")
  • Risk-reversal language: guarantees, free trials, money-back

Why it matters

Halving form length or fixing a vague CTA can double enquiry volume from existing traffic, usually a cheaper win than buying more traffic.

Discipline 06

AI Visibility

When someone asks Perplexity, ChatGPT, or Google's AI for a recommendation in your space, can the model cite your business confidently? AI Visibility is the discipline most audit tools skip entirely.

What we check

  • Schema.org types present on About, Services, FAQ pages
  • Author markup and timestamps on content
  • Factual claims (founded year, named clients, locations served) that are extractable
  • GPTBot, ClaudeBot, CCBot, PerplexityBot directives in robots.txt

Why it matters

Up to 30 percent of branded and high-intent queries now resolve in an AI assistant before a single page is clicked. Businesses absent from those answers are invisible to a growing chunk of buyers.

Free vs paid

Every discipline runs at every tier. These are the places where the £49 Starter audit (coming soon, join the waitlist) adds material capability the free tier cannot deliver.

  • Clarity & UX · Run by Lens

Free tier scores design DISCIPLINE only, font count, weight count, inline-style density. The £49 tier adds a vision-based review of the rendered design (typography quality, spacing, modernity, brand polish).

And the seventh agent

After the six finish, Brief writes the action list.

Brief is the last agent to run. After the six pillar agents finish, Brief reads every finding, picks the three to five actions that move the score most, and writes the executive summary.

Where we depend on third parties

Honest about external data.

The free tier reads the site itself. Paid tiers connect external services, your own Google Analytics 4, Search Console, Companies House, the Anthropic and OpenAI answer engines, to push the audit deeper. Nothing is shared without your explicit OAuth consent.
